Stevens Point Brewery – St Benedict’s Winter Ale

This is the fourth review in the series “12 Beers of Christmas” – Everyday for 12 days we will have a review on a Christmas/Winter beer.

Stevens Point Brewery - St Benedicts Winter Ale

The cold weather has finally started in around here. No longer is it nice to go outside and take a drive with the windows down.  You wouldn’t even think of sitting out on the deck and enjoying the sunny day since it is now gray and cold. Not everything is bad about the Winter though. Soon it will be time to ski and snow tube. Before you know it, Christmas will be here and you will be having that oh so wonderful fruitcake. Ok… Maybe I am stretching it with the fruitcake. There are three more things though that I totally love about the coldest time of the year.  Hoodies, fireplaces, and of course great winter beer!

The other day I was sitting by the fire when I got the craving for a beer. So I went out to the #PACBeerFridge and reached in. As I looked down to see what I grabbed I saw that I had indeed struck gold. Out came a Stevens Point Brewery St Benedict’s Winter Ale (Say that three times fast). Now that you are tongue tied I will continue.

I went and grabbed my favorite beer glass and poured the beer down the side. Out poured a nice chocolaty color liquid that was sure to delight. As you look at this brew you think it would a very  heavy beer but you would be dead wrong. This beer is a true winter delight. There are many flavors that you taste while sipping this beer by the fire yet it is hard to put your finger on any defining flavors which is a great thing! As I sit here and write this, I taste a bit of roasted malt with a hint of caramel.  I taste a fruity hint with a hint of nuttiness. This beverage has a great earthy flavor to it that perfectly speaks of Winter. At 6.2% ABV this is a great beer to have a few of while watching Mickey’s Christmas Carol with the family or hitting the slopes with some friends (this beer comes in cans too!). PACraftBeer does not condone skiing and drinking… but it sure is fun! (That sounds legal enough for us)

Stevens Point Brewery nailed this seasonal favorite of mine. I would totally grab another one if there were any left in the house. Looks like I’ll be taking a drive tomorrow to pick up some more and you should do the same! It definitely will not disappoint.

Cheers and happy holidays!
